The AVIDD-O Cluster
Hardware Configuration
AVIDD-O is comprised of IBM eSeries, rack-mounted server-class systems, located on the Indianapolis campus of Indiana University.
Cluster Nodes
Compute (36, eSeries x326):
- 2 x 2.6 GHz AMD Opteron 252, 1024K L2 cache
- 2GB PC3200 ECC DDR SDRAM
- AMD 8111 chipset (rev3)
- 2 x 73 GB Ultra320 SCSI Disk, RAID1 (60 GB of local scratch)
- 2 x 1GigE Broadcom 5704
- 1 x Myricom M3F-PCIXD-2 (Myrinet interconnect)
User and Storage (2 and 4, eSeries x326):
- 2 x 2.6 GHz AMD Opteron 252, 1024K L2 cache
- 4GB PC3200 ECC DDR SDRAM
- AMD 8111 chipset (rev3)
- 2 x 73 GB Ultra320 SCSI Disk, RAID1 (60 GB of local scratch)
- 2 x 1GigE Broadcom 5704
- 1 x Myricom M3F-PCIXD-2 (Myrinet interconnect)
Networking
There are two major interconnects on the AVIDD-O Cluster: a Myrinet M3-E128 switch provides 2+2Gb/s bandwidth with latency on the order of 7 microseconds; a Force10 E600 switch provides Gigabit Ethernet.
Storage
The storage nodes provide access to IBM's General Parallel File System (GPFS), which is distributed over approximately 60 36GB Fiber Channel disks. GPFS provides a 1.6TB filesystem accessible from all respective compute and user nodes.
Home directories are available via NFSv3 over Gigabit Ethernet.
